In mid-March New York was hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic and the city was brought to a standstill as the virus spread. Several of my upcoming jobs abruptly ended and I decided to move back to California to be with my family.
As the world scrambled to control the virus many aspects of the entertainment industry were shutdown but voiceover opportunities continued by shifting to remote recording sessions. If I could create a reliable home studio setup I would be able to audition for and record voiceover roles from home. With so many aspects of our everyday lives uncertain, I was very grateful to be safe with my family and to have the opportunity to continue auditioning.
I quickly enlisted my father to help with the design and build of a home studio and upgraded my equipment to include a RODE NT1-A microphone and Scarlett Focusrite 2i2 interface. We were able to build an afforable and effective (and mobile!) studio space using PVC pipe, moving blankets, old sleeping bags and mattresses. Check out our handiwork!
