This year I had the privilege of performing in the Grand Final of the 2018 Cranston Cup!
The Cranston Cup is one of Australia’s biggest improvised comedy shows. For eight weeks improv teams throughout Sydney were pitted against one another in preliminary Theatresports competition until the strongest six teams prevailed. These teams went on to perform at the Enmore Theatre to an audience of 1,500 people.
While I have had extensive training in long-form improvised comedy, the world of short-form was very foreign to me. I was approached to join a team and figured, “Why not?!” Our team captain, Jeromaia Detto, and Theatresports legend Scott Sheridan were incredible coaches to Aaron Tsindos and I as we learned the ins and outs of short-form improv. We created two minute renditions of fairy tale classics, full improvised musicals, even complete operas in a mere three minutes! As the team: Screaming at Things, Jeromaia, Scott, Aaron, and I surprised ourselves by placing first in the heats and landing a spot in the Cranston Cup Grand Final at the Enmore Theatre!
We may not have taken home the cup, but a great time was had by all, and I’m sure Screaming at Things will live to scream another day!
